“No one can pass through life, any more than he can pass through a bit of country, without leaving tracks behind, and those tracks may often be helpful to those coming after him in finding their way.”
— Robert Baden-Powell (founder of Scouts)
Long Term Planning:
As promised, here are the current updates about the two upcoming adventure camps.
Gettysburg:
The Troop will be headed to Gettysburg, PA on Memorial day weekend, May 26-29.
Our plans to head out have not been finalized, but will likely be immediately following school. We'd like to wake up Saturday morning at camp and have two full days of activities.
We will head back mid morning on Monday, and expect to be home by 6pm.
Some of our itineraries include visiting historic sites, hiking, service project, and learning about the area (before, during, and after the battle). We will be working to earn several awards as well.
The cost of this weekend is expected to be between $75-$90 per scout. (This will include all meals, travel fees, and camping reservations. everything except personal souvenirs)
Camping reservations have already been made at Pine Grove Furnace State Park, in Cumberland County, PA, in the group camping area.
A completed itinerary will be completed before the end of February and distributed.
If you have any questions, please let me know so I can include the answer in further communications.
Philmont:
I have been in contact with staff at Philmont. The summer registration portal should be opened at the end of this week or early next week. I will send out an update when it is open to accept reservations, as I will be checked daily.
This trip to Philmont will be the "Family Camp" option.
This is a Troop activity, but it is required (by our Troop) that a parent/guardian attend with the scout. You can make this a complete family trip as well. All family members can participate if you choose and pay the appropriate fees.
Cost:
There are full-week and half-week options.
There is also a campership available, but must be completed and returned by Feb 1.

The troop will be going June 18-24, 2023.
There is obviously travel fare involved as well.
Each family is expected to make their arrangements; camp, travel, and activities.
We will plan to have some "Troop time" and share meals and stories around camp, and plan some activities as a group as well.
Just as a quick update, Esteban is gathering info about the upcoming Klondike in 2 weeks (day activity) on Feb 4 and summer camp at JN Webster.
We also are planning to attend the spring camporee May 12-14.
This covers all special camping through the summer. We will still have a few troop camping weekends and several activities already on our events calendar.
Happy Scouting,
Chris
